What does the inside of your cats ears look like?

Well this unfortunate cats ears were infested with ear mites!  Microscopic demons who snack on the inside of cats ears and tickle them by crawling around inside.  These creatures are passed around from cat to cat by direct contact. Rubbing up against each other and grooming one another are a couple examples.

Some signs that your cat may have ear mites:

  1. Dark brown, coffee ground debris in ears
  2. Scratching at ears, sometimes to point where they get bloody
  3. Kick (thump) with their foot if you rub their ears

Here is the ear mites seen under a microscope! There are many on this slide but the circled one is a great example.
